Sports Activities in Richmond

A large community south of the Vancouver International Airport, Richmond is a relatively new area filled with parks and recreational facilities to accommodate the swelling population and growing number of visitors.

Bicycling

Bicycle enthusiasts should check out the River Road bicycle route, a fun, adventurous 36-kilometre loop around the suburb of Richmond. End your day at Garry Point Park gazing at the sunset while enjoying a wonderful meal, and top it off with some world-famous ice cream on the beach. For more information go to Richmond cycling routes at the MapMiTri Web site.

Golfing

Golfers won’t want to miss the Mayfair Lakes Golf and Country Club. This popular 18-hole course is known for the water found on and near its playing surfaces. A par-71, 6641-yard course that plays well throughout the year makes it popular with the locals and visitors. Watch out for the jumping salmon in some of the water hazards! And remember, you're there to play golf, not swim. For lessons, course information and equipment rental there are four additional golf clubs in Richmond: Country Meadows Golf Course; 604-241-465; 8400 No. 6 Road. Greenacres Golf Course; 604-273-1121; 5040 No. 6 Road. Mylora Golf Course; at 5 Rd.: 604-277-1179; 9550 No. 5 Road or Sidaway: 604-271-5626; 9911 Sidaway Road.

Ice Skating

The newly constructed Richmond Ice Centre is part of the Riverport Sports and Entertainment complex, just off of Highway 99. The facility has six regulation-sized rinks (200 ft. by 85 ft.) and offers year-round ice, with dry floor available in the spring and summer on two of the six rinks. For more information and public schedules check out Riverport Sports' Web site.
