Many people have started to adapt into their own lifestyle one of the most popular sports in the world – golf. Golf is the kind of a sport which presents a unique elegance and royal ethics. (For these people we are running the Vancouver Golf Course Guide.)

What makes golf in British Columbia so special? The view of course! Imagine stepping up to the tee against astonishing snow capped mountains, pristine wilderness, deep blue ocean or crystal clear lakes. This is how golfing feels around BC. Here in Canada’s westernmost province, you will discover signature courses designed by world renowned golf architects like Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Thomas McBroom – each one framed by picture perfect scenery at every turn. Courses range from championship and links style layouts, to executive lengths and family style designs.

Even for the well-seasoned travellers, Vancouver has the power to astonish. Imagine a place where you can golf, sail and ski during all one day. Now add a mild climate, where greens are green year-round and you have Vancouver. No wonder it is the setting for some of North America’s best golf courses. The climate, accessibility, long season, natural beauty and variety of golf courses make golfing around Vancouver exceptional.

Canadian Golf introduces a member based organization governed by the Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA). It is the governing body of golf in Canada, representing more than 350,000 members at 1,600 clubs across the country. Recognized by Sport Canada as the National Sport Organization (NSO) for golf in this country, Canadian Golf is responsible for promoting participation in and a passion for the game of golf in Canada. Ultimately, Canadian Golf manages Canada’s most prestigious golf championships. The RBC Canadian Open and CN Canadian Women’s Open magnetise the best professional golfers in the world, while regional junior and national amateur championships prepare world class competitive opportunities for Canada’s top golfers to showcase their talents.

The RBC Canadian Open, which is the richest golf tournament in Canada, is also a PGA Tour. It is the second oldest stop on the PGA Tour and the third oldest national championship in the world. Since its inception in 1904, the Canadian Open has played host to the world’s best golfers and produced incalculable memorable moments. Sports fans across the country and around the world have been entertained by legends including former champions Byron Nelson, Arnold Palmer, Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh and Jim Furyk. With Carl Pettersson winning the 2010 RBC Canadian Open, Sweden becomes the ninth country to claim a champion at Canada’s national open.

Canada has enjoyed one the highest participation rates in golf of any country with one in five Canadians playing the game. But as Canada changes, the Royal Canadian Golf Association recognizes the need for change to keep in step. Therefore the RCGA creates a strategic plan about the development this sport in Canada for the following two years. This hopefully project is called Vision 2012 – Shaping Golf´s Future. The main achievement will be an improvement of key performance indicators:

  • an increase in individual membership from 352 480 in 2009 to 451 980 members by the end of 2012
  • an increase in membership revenue by an incremental $ 1.5 million over our 2009 base by 2012
  • an increase in brand loyal customers who are “proud to be members”
  • re-creating our personality and creating a new consumer facing brand – Canadian Golf
  • continuing to build and fulfil our responsibilities as golf´s National Sport Organization
  • driving increased membership levels of clubs
  • focusing our efforts on getting more children into the game
  • increasing the calibre of our excellence programs and coaching education

The game is called golf includes a lot of living sports experiences and also personal lifestyle. Golf is still more popular in all the world, especially in Canada.
